Years of Young Adult Fiction

Since experiencing a serious health issue nearly two years ago, one of the many changes I made in my life was to begin reading more material that I found inspiring to my creative self. Stuff that would energize me, not drain or add stress.

It was an unconscious decision to begin reading mostly Young-Adult (YA) Fiction. If you know me, you know I’ve always loved Sci-Fi / Adventure / Fantasy works. Little did I know how deep the rabbit-hole was in the YA Fantasy world. It’s a beautiful place.

I’m happy to report that this practice did indeed decrease stress, increase joy and inspire more creativity.

Here’s my Goodreads history since then. It’s roughly 80 books in 23 months. Nearly 3.5 books per month. For me, that’s a LOT : ) and it feels like a nice PB (personal best) so I’ll take it! But it’s not about the volume, of course. I feel like these books have helped me grown as a human into deeper empathy, patience and wisdom. I deeply treasure those things because they enable me to be better for my family and my self.

My Top 4 (I couldn’t pick just 3)

The City of Ember
Mechanica

The Rest (were also great!)
