Unhinged

The beautiful chaos of this snap reminded me of this poem I wrote in 2008, Breathless Chord. Here’s an excerpt:

Your mysteries they swallow me whole –
Surf the silence down the throat.
I cut the curves and hug my board.
Each muffled breath a soundless crash.

It’s darkness I have never known –
a wet path undulating road.
I hope and pray to know the half
of striking one breathless, still, a chord.

It’s about what you do when you realize how small and insignificant we very well may be, and what to do with that possibility. The poem, at first, describes one trying to tame the chaos, but quickly realizing it’s not possible before becoming still and accepting their smallness.
